Abstract
In this study, the relationship between wind energy (which is a renewable energy source) production and economic growth was analyzed econometrically with panel cointegration and panel causality tests using the period of 1995-2019 annual data of the EU-15 countries. According to the cointegration test, there is no cointegration relationship for the model where wind energy production is independent variable and economic growth is dependent variable; on the other hand, there is a cointegration relationship for the model where economic growth is independent variable and wind energy production is dependent variable. In the long-run, economic growth has a significant effect on wind energy production, and this effect is positive and limited. Also, according to the causality test, there is a unidirectional causality relationship from economic growth to wind energy production. The empirical findings support conservation hypothesis.
