Abstract

Bu çalışma, kategorik değişkenlerin analizinde kullanılan istatistiki yöntemlerden biri olan çoklu mütekabiliyet analizinin (multiple correspondence analysis) avantajlarını, potansiyellerini ve analitik değerini Türkiye’de siyasi parti araştırmaları için açığa çıkarmak amacındadır. Bu çalışmada tekniğin sosyal bilimler içinde yaygınlaşmasında önemli bir yere sahip olan Bourdieu’nün görüşlerinden, ilgili literatürden ve tekniğin yazarın önceki kullanımları üzerine inşa edilen oto-analizden yararlanılmıştır. Teknik, araştırmacılara farklı düzeylerde avantajlar sağlamaktadır. Birincisi devasa veri setlerinden oldukça ekonomik yorumlar yapılabilme olanağını sunmaktadır. İkincisi bu teknik aracılığıyla gündelik yaşamdaki ampirik bireyler, analiz içerisinde tanımlandıkları nitelikleriyle epistemik bireyler olarak inşa edilebilmektedir. Üçüncüsü, değişkenler (ve kategorileri) arasında a priori teori, model veya hipotezler gerektirmediği için göreli bir kolay bir kullanım olanağı sunmaktadır. Dördüncüsü, mikro düzey etnografik araştırmalar için örneklem seçimine istatistiki bir dayanak oluşturabilmektedir. Tüm bu nedenlerle, sonuç olarak çalışmada Türkiye’de siyasi partiler araştırmalarında neredeyse hiç kullanılmayan çoklu mütekabiliyet analizi tekniği araştırmacıların kullanabileceği özgün bir istatistiki yöntem olarak önerilmektedir.

A STATISTICAL METHODOLOGY PROPOSAL FOR RESEARCH ON POLITICAL PARTIES IN TURKEY: MULTIPLE CORRESPONDENCE ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the advantages, potentials and analytical value of multiple correspondence analysis, which is one of the statistical methods used in the analysis of categorical variables, for political party literature in Turkey. In this study, Bourdieu’s opinions, who has a major role on dissemination of the technique within the social sciences, relevant literature and an auto-analysis that builds upon the prior uses of the technique by the author has been utilized. The technique provides researchers with different levels of advantages. First, it offers the opportunity to make very economical interpretations from big data sets. Second, through this technique, empirical individuals in everyday life can be constructed as epistemic individuals with the defined qualities in the analysis. Third, the technique offers a relatively easy use, as it does not require any a priori theory, model, or hypotheses between variables (and their categories). Fourth, it can provide a statistical basis for case selection for micro-level ethnographic studies. To conclude, for all these reasons, multiple correspondence analysis technique, which is almost never used in political parties research in Turkey, is suggested as an original statistical method that researchers can use.
