The labor-intensive character of tourism services increases the importance
of ethical principles which tourism institutions have to fulfill against their employees.
Sometimes these ethical principles have an effect on identifying working places of employees.
This study aims at investigating the effects of tourism institutions’ ethical applications on
workplace preferences of prospective students at secondary level. In this context, the data
were collected from 75 persons through a face to face survey, in a secondary school in Bursa.
The percentages, the frequency distributions, the means of collected data were calculated
and exploratory factor analysis was performed. The appropriateness of the model was
tested by means of confirmatory factor analysis, independent samples t-test and ANOVA
tests were used so as to explore relationships between the variables. According to the study
results, the most important ethical principles were related to labor accidents and sexual
harassment issues. Whereas the least important ethical principles were about the issues of
social responsibilities and union rights. It has been determined gender is also a statistically
significant factor in terms of importance given to ethical principles. The respond of tourism
establishments to the needs in accordance with ethical principles is a crucial issue because
it attracts qualified employees to the establishment.
