A Review on The Relationship Between Psychological Strength and Secondary Traumatic Stress Level of Perceived Parent Attitudes of Police Officers

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between perceived parental attitudes and psychological resilience and secondary traumatic stress levels of police officers who go on active duty with guns, work in a shift system and hierarchical structure, where the risks and responsibilities of the intervened tasks are high, and who work in difficult conditions from this point of view. For this purpose, 24 studies consisting of research articles and postgraduate theses published in the YÖKTEZ database and accessed from the Google Scholar search engine using the words "police, parental attitudes, psychological resilience, secondary traumatic stress" were determined and their results were examined. As conclusion, based on the findings that democratic parental attitudes increase psychological resilience, it was deduced that the psychological resilience of police officers who grew up with democratic parental attitudes would be higher, and that psychologically sound individuals would be less prone to secondary traumatic stress.
