The Effect of Theology Faculty Education on Students’ Religiosity

In this mixed-method study, an answer to the question ‘What are the opinions of the students about the effect of the education they receive in the faculties of theology on their religiosity?’ was sought. Questionnaire and focus group interview were used as data collection techniques. The research was structured according to the exploratory sequential design and in this direction, firstly a questionnaire was applied and then a focus group interview was conducted to reveal the reasons for the questionnaire data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the students have quite different opinions about the existence of an educational environment that supports their religiosity in the faculties of theology, but they agree to a great extent that the education they receive in these faculties is not of a quality that will cause them to cool down from religion. It was observed that the rate of students who stated that the education they received at the faculty in question contributed to making their behaviour more compatible with religion exceeded 60%.

İlâhiyât fakülteleri öteden beri devlet ile halk arasında sıkışıp kalmaya mahkûm edilmiş kurumlardır. Bu kurumlar, din ile problemleri olmadığı konusunda dindar halkı; devletin temelini oluşturan ilke ve değerlerle problemleri olmadığı konusunda ise hem devlet erklerini hem de halkın seküler kesimini ikna etme zorunluluğunu aynı anda hissetmişlerdir. Bu sıkışmışlık hali halen devam ettiği için söz konusu fakültelerin kimlik krizinden tam anlamıyla kurtulmaları mümkün olmamıştır. Karma yöntemle yapılan bu araştırmada “öğrencilerin, ilâhiyât fakültelerinde aldıkları eğitimin, dindarlık durumları üzerindeki etkisine dair görüşleri nedir?” sorusuna cevap aranmıştır. Veri toplama tekniği olarak anket ve odak grup görüşmesi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma, açımlayıcı sıralı desene göre yapılandırılmış ve bu doğrultuda öncelikle anket uygulaması yapılmış, daha sonra ise anket verilerinin nedenlerini ortaya çıkarmak üzere odak grup görüşmesi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin, ilâhiyât fakültelerinde dindarlıklarını destekleyici nitelikte bir eğitim ortamının varlığı konusunda birbirinden oldukça farklı düşüncelere sahip oldukları ancak söz konusu fakültelerde aldıkları eğitimin dinden soğumalarına yol açacak nitelikte olmadığı konusunda çok büyük ölçüde hemfikir oldukları tespit edilmiştir. Söz konusu fakültede aldığı eğitimin, davranışlarını din ile daha uyumlu hale getirmesine katkı sağladığını belirten öğrencilerin oranının ise %60’ı aştığı görülmüştür.
