Development of Mental Health Protection and Mental Disorders Prevention Scale

Protecting mental health and preventing mental disorders before they occur is very important for protective and preventive mental health services. The most critical stages for protection and prevention work are childhood and adolescence. In this sense, it is important to determine and standardize the criteria to be considered for studies to be carried out. The aim of this study is to develop the Mental Health Protection and Mental Disorders Prevention Scale in order to reveal the potential of primary and secondary school in period children to cope with the crises that may occur in life and to determine how resistant they are to mental disorders. The study group of the scale is 731 parents who have children primary and secondary school period. The validity study of the scale were examined by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis methods and criterion related validity. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, it was determined that scale consisted of four sub-dimensions. Four dimensions explain 53.71% of the total variance. The model revealed by exploratory factor analysis was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire was used for criterion related validity analysis. Cronbach Alpha value of the scale was determined as 0.89 within the scope of reliability studies. Test-Retest reliability coefficient was determined as r=0.81. According to the item analysis results, the subgroup and the upper group in the scale were differentiated significantly. Total item correlation values were found to be sufficient. The findings of the study showed that the Mental Health Protection and Mental Disorders Prevention Scale is a valid and reliable tool in demonstrating the potential of children of primary and secondary school age to cope with crises that may occur in life and measuring how resistant they are to mental disorders.

Ruh sağlığının korunması ve ruhsal bozuklukların meydana gelmeden önlenmesi, koruyucu ve önleyici ruh sağlığı hizmetleri için oldukça önemlidir. Koruma ve önleme çalışmaları için en kritik evreler çocukluk ve ergenlik evresidir. Bu anlamda yapılacak çalışmalar için dikkate alınacak olan kriterlerin saptanması ve standardize edilmesi önemlidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul ve ortaokul çağındaki çocukların yaşamda meydana gelebilecek krizlerle baş edebilme potansiyelini ortaya koymak ve ruhsal bozukluklara karşı ne oranda dirençli olduğunu tespit etmek için Ruh Sağlığını Koruma ve Ruhsal Bozuklukları Önleme Ölçeğini geliştirmektir. Ölçeğin çalışma grubu, ilkokul ve ortaokulda eğitim gören çocuğa sahip olan 731 ebeveyndir. Ölçeğin geçerlik çalışmaları kapsamında açımlayıcı, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ve ölçüt bağıntılı geçerlik çalışmaları gerçekleştirilmiştir. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda ölçeğin dört boyutlu olduğu ortaya konmuştur. Dört boyut toplam varyansın %53.71’ini açıklamaktadır. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi ile ortaya konan model, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ile doğrulanmıştır. Ölçüt bağıntılı geçerlik analizi için Güçler ve Güçlükler Anketi kullanılmıştır. Güvenirlik çalışmaları kapsamında ölçeğin Cronbach Alpha değeri 0.89 olarak saptanmıştır. Test Tekrar Test güvenirlik katsayısı r=0.81 olarak saptanmıştır. Madde analizi sonuçlarına göre ölçekteki alt grupla üst grup anlamlı bir biçimde ayrışmıştır. Madde toplam korelasyon değerleri yeterli bulunmuştur. Araştırma bulguları, Ruh Sağlığını Koruma ve Ruhsal Bozuklukları Önleme Ölçeğinin, ilkokul ve ortaokul çağındaki çocukların yaşamda meydana gelebilecek krizlerle baş edebilme potansiyelini ortaya koymada ve ruhsal bozukluklara karşı ne oranda dirençli olduğunu ölçmede, geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olduğunu göstermiştir.
