This study aims to give information briefly about the mu‘cem and khamus, which are the words of the dictionary in Arabic, and to discuss the types of Arabic dictionaries and term dictionaries. Dictionary studies in the Arab society began when the Arab society encounter foreign culture as a result of Islam's conquests. The Arabs learned the way of writing a dictionary from the nations that previously prepared a dictionary. Reasons like understanding unknown words which are in the Quran, loosing existence of words with dying of people who use words, interaction of foreign cultures and fear of losing language had writing dictionary started. Accordingly, dictionaries that serve different purposes and use different methods were written. We believe that this article will be sufficient for those who want summary information about dictionaries and glossaries, and for those who want detailed information, through reference books.
Bu çalışma, sözlük kelimesinin karşılığı Arapça karşılığı olan mu‘cem ve kâmus kelimeleri hakkında kısaca bilgi verip, Arapça sözlük çeşitleri ve terim sözlüklerini ele almayı hedeflemektedir. Arap toplumunda sözlük çalışmaları İslam’ın zuhuru ve fetihler sonucunda Arap toplumunun yabancı kültürlerle karşılaşmasıyla başladı. Araplar, daha önce sözlük hazırlayan milletlerden sözlük yazım şeklini öğrendi. Kur’ân-ı Kerîm’de var olan garîb kelimeleri anlamak, kelimeleri kullanan bireylerin vefatıyla kelimelerin de varlığını yitirmesi, yabancı kültürlerle etkileşimi ve dilin kaybolma korkusu gibi sebepler Arap toplumunda sözlük yazımını başlattı. Bu doğrultuda farklı amaçlara hizmet eden ve farklı yöntemler kullanan sözlükler yazıldı. Bu makalenin sözlük ve terim sözlükleri konusunda özet bilgi isteyenler için yeterli, detaylı bilgi isteyenler için ise kaynak kitaplardan da yararlanarak bu bilgilere bir yol olacağı kanaatindeyiz.

The ethics committee approvals obtained in accordance with the “publication policy” of the articles submitted to the Turkish Academic Social Sciences Research Journal must be specified in the METHOD section of the article and uploaded to the system. Publications with plagiarism report over 20% and studies without ethics committee approval will not be evaluated for publication in our journal.
