Amerika Kongre Kütüphanesi Sultan II. Abdülhamid Dijital Koleksiyonundaki Okul Görsellerinin İncelenmesi ve Tarih Konularının Öğretiminde Kullanım Potansiyelinin Değerlendirilmesi

This study aims to analyze the school visuals in the Sultan Abdulhamid II Digital Collection at the US Library of Congress and to evaluate the potential of these visuals in teaching history subjects. The research was designed according to the case study, one of the qualitative research methods, as it is based on an introductory, exploratory, cross-sectional and historical literature review involving a specific date. The data of the study consisted of school (middle school, high school, private school) images taken between 1880-1893 in the Sultan Abdulhamid II Digital Collection at the US Library of Congress. The images in the collection contain unique resources that can contribute to history teaching. The research aims to provide information on how these images can be used effectively in teaching history subjects by analyzing their content, school levels and possibilities of use as teaching materials in a descriptive way. In this context, by focusing on the potential of the digital collection in the US Library of Congress to bring new perspectives to history teaching, it offers an important resource to experts and teachers in the field of education. According to the results of the study, it is predicted that the school visuals in the Abdulhamid II Digital Collection can be a supportive tool for teaching history subjects to students. It is thought that they can be used especially in the subjects of national cultural elements and historical cultural remains in the field of culture and heritage learning in the social studies course. In addition, it can be said that it is appropriate to use the subjects related to the education system and schools during the reign of Abdulhamid II in the 11th grade history course in secondary education. In this context, the use of digital resources in the teaching process is recommended.

Bu araştırma, Amerika Kongre Kütüphanesi'nde bulunan Sultan II. Abdülhamid Dijital Koleksiyonu'nda yer alan okul görsellerinin incelenmesini ve bu görsellerin tarih konularının öğretimindeki potansiyelinin değerlendirilmesini amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma, desen olarak tanıtıcı, keşfedici, belli bir tarihi içeren kesitsel ve tarihsel kaynak taramasına dayandığı için nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışmasına göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri, Amerika Kongre Kütüphanesi'nde bulunan Sultan II. Abdülhamid Dijital Koleksiyonu'nda yer alan 1880-1893 yılları arasında çekilmiş okul (ortaokul, lise, özel okul) görsellerinden oluşmaktadır. Koleksiyondaki görseller, tarih öğretimine katkı sağlayabilecek benzersiz kaynaklar içermektedir. Araştırma, bu görsellerin içeriği, okul düzeyleri ve öğretim materyali olarak kullanım olanaklarını betimsel bir şekilde analiz ederek, tarih konularının öğretiminde nasıl etkili bir şekilde kullanılabileceği konusunda bilgi sunmayı hedeflemektedir. Bu bağlamda, Amerika Kongre Kütüphanesi'ndeki dijital koleksiyonun, tarih öğretimine yeni perspektifler kazandırma potansiyeline odaklanarak, eğitim alanındaki uzmanlara ve öğretmenlere önemli bir kaynak sunmaktadır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre II. Abdülhamid Dijital koleksiyondaki okul görsellerinin öğrencilere tarih konularını öğretmek için destekleyici bir araç olabileceği öngörülmektedir. Özellikle sosyal bilgiler dersinde kültür ve miras öğrenme alanında milli kültür ögeleri, tarihi kültürel kalıntılar konularında kullanılabileceği düşünülmektedir. Ayrıca ortaöğretim 11. Sınıf tarih dersinde II. Abdülhamid döneminde eğitim sistemi ve okullar ile ilgili konuların öğretim sürecinde kullanımının uygun olduğu söylenebilir. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda dijital kaynakların öğretim sürecinde kullanımı önerilmektedir.
