The Use Of Closed/Strange Words, Proverb And Expressions İn The Maqam Of Al-Kawwas: The Example Of El-Makâmetu'l-Antâkiyye

Abstract

al-Kawwas is a Syrian literary man who died in 1000 AH. el-Makâmetu'l-Antâkiyye takes place in the seventh row of al-Kavvâs's work named Riyâdu'l-Ezâr ve Nesîmu'l-Esâr which he wrote in the field of Makâme. The events of the maqame take place in the city of Antakya (Hatay). Its purpose is to teach the words, idioms and proverbs that are not used in daily language and have an obscure/strange meaning and to inform the reader of such expressions. It also aims to make them think, entertain, give them religious advice and have a good time. The narrator of the makâme is al-Erib b. Akvâl, its hero is an old man and his wife. At the end of the article, there is a dictionary section where the strange words, proverbs and idioms in the text are discussed and their meanings are given. In this study, al-Makâmetu'l-Antâkiyye was analyzed and attention was drawn to the presentation of such writings in a more effective, entertaining and instructive manner by using strange words, idioms and proverbs; An example of the impressiveness of the art of makâme in the teaching method is given.
